Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Sarawak (JTK Sarawak) is also known as the Department of Labour Sarawak in English. The Department of Labour Sarawak is a department under the purview of the (Malay: ). The Department was established on July 26, 1960 with its functions under the jurisdiction of the Resident and District Office. After Sarawak became an autonomous state of the federation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963, the Department was placed under the Ministry of Labour, which was renamed the Ministry of Human Resources in 1990. The Labour Office, Kuching was only set up in 1969 at Round Tower, followed by other Labour Offices. The Department of Labour Sarawak is currently headquartered in Kuching and has 16 Labour Offices (Malay: Pejabat Buruh) located throughout Sarawak.

The functions of the Department of Manpower (Malay: Jabatan Tenaga Rakyat) in Sarawak was taken over by the Department of Labour Sarawak on November 29, 2002. On July 1, 2003, the Employment Services Section of the Manpower Department was merged with the Sarawak Labour Department. As a result of the merger, Jabatan Buruh was changed to Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Sarawak (JTKSWK or JTK Sarawak). Kuching JobsMalaysia Centre (JMC) was established on January 25, 2010. JobsMalaysia Points (JMP) were established in all offices of the Department of Labour Sarawak as a one stop center for employment services. The functions of JTK Sarawak are to legislate labour policy in cooperation with the Ministry; to advise parties concern on labour legislations and labour matters; to enforce the labour laws; and to consider and decide on application for license and labour permit.

Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Semenanjung Malaysia is a department under the (Malay: ). Established in 1912 as Labour Department (Malay: Jabatan Buruh). Before the establishment of Malaysia in September 1963, the functions of the Department were under the jurisdiction of the district office.
Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Sabah
After Malaysia was formed, the Department was placed under the purview of the Ministry of Labour, which was renamed the Ministry of Human Resources in 1990. Prior to 1960s, the main objective of the Department was to protect the interests and welfare of workers in the agriculture and mining sectors. In 1970, the Labour Department (Malay: Jabatan Buruh) and the (Malay: ) were consolidated into a single department and its objectives were widen to include resolving disputes involving workers and trade unions. In 1972, Jabatan Buruh splitted off in a restructuring exercise to streamline its operations. It was entrusted with the main objective of safeguarding and protecting the interests and welfare of workers and employees in order to create a conducive working environment for employees. On February 19, 2003, Jabatan Buruh was renamed Jabatan Tenaga Kerja (JTK) as a result merger of the Employment Services Division (Malay: Bahagian Perkhidmatan Pekerjaan) of the Manpower Department (Malay: Jabatan Tenaga Rakyat) and Jabatan Buruh.
The roles of Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Semenanjung Malaysia was increased and broadened to include collecting data on labour force and public sector job placement services.
